lyrics
Slithering, slippery, slimy, slick
Muscular, pulling, musky, sick
Consuming, contracting, constricting grip
Tight wet squeeze of wheezing, crippling asphyxia
The strongest hold, the cramp of old, the shivering cold, the taste of mould
The last gasp is the deepest
Death’s kiss is the sweetest
The last gasp is the deepest
Death’s kiss is the sweetest
Life leaves this disfigured flesh
To rest with the Moss Goddess
She’s the empress of the deep
Temptress of eternal sleep
And a new awakening in the region where she reigns
In an ageless airless realm
Let yourself be overwhelmed
The last gasp is the deepest
Death’s kiss is the sweetest
The last gasp is the deepest
Death’s kiss is the sweetest
She is mistress of the swamp
Choking, drowning, disappearing
Of the moist and of the damp
Of new growth and reappearing
Trace your fingertips along the crack
Push your hand into the widening gap
Force your torso through and plunge in after
Then silence comes and drowns the sound of laughter
Ha ha ha
The last gasp is the deepest
Look to the naked horizon
At the edge of the fen
Behold the rising sun
Lust curled up in a tightening coil
Vainly clutching these coveted spoils
Lay with me and never leave
Stay forever, none shall grieve
I shall crown thee every spring
With the silver magpies bring
Do not stir, my lover dear
I shall always keep you here
Where the bulrushes grow fair
Entangled in my tangled hair
The last gasp is the deepest
Look to the naked horizon
At the edge of the fen
Behold the sinking sun
She is mistress of the swamp
Choking, drowning, disappearing
Of the moist and of the damp
Of unbirth and reappearing
The last gasp is the deepest
Embrace the great goddess Nerthus
We must celebrate her cultus
Or did Grauballe Man die for nothing?
This might be the least folky of the Wobbler releases and I wasn't sure about it at all.
After a few listens however I'm loving the inventiveness and the endless melodies, all driven along by Kristian Hultgren's wonderful percussive bass. PartTimeZombie
